Counting Down to the New Year – Start 2016 with a bang!

2015 is coming to an end – we will shortly be ushering in 2016 with joyous celebrations with our beloved families and friends. This year may have been a fantastic year, whether it was because you graduated from your studies, bought your first home, or met that special someone.

For others it may have been a difficult year with challenges both in their personal and professional life. Nevertheless, a new year always represents a fresh start; a clean slate. When the clock strikes midnight on December 31st it’s time to bid farewell to what has been, and time to embrace what is to come.

New Year can be a time to target new things to do, learn new skills, or consolidating things you’re already passionately pursuing. The best ways to do this are through New Year’s Resolutions! Below are some amazing New Year’s resolutions to start 2016 with a bang!

Spend more time with family and friends

Work shouldn’t always come first! Make plans to meet up with family and friends at regular intervals. Bonding with your loved ones and making memories for you to cherish is what life is all about.



Get in shape

Design a regular exercise program to keep your body in shape.  Select a regime you can stick to.  Group activities can be a fun way of exercising and can help keep you motivated to achieve your goals.

Quit an addiction

Stamp out your smoking habit for a more healthy 2016.  Even if you’ve tried before and failed, don’t let it get you down. Seek the help of support groups or professionals. If you have the will, you shall find the way.

Learn something new

Learning has no age. Acquiring new knowledge is the best way to stay young. Most local colleges and universities offer distance and adult education programmes, so go check it out! You can even learn new skills, like how to swim, paint, or even a foreign language.


Make new friends

Making new friends can be intimidating, but it’s definitely rewarding. Meeting new people can be beneficial to your mental well-being and sometimes help your career, so don’t stay in your comfort zone and miss out on a lot of interesting, fun and networking opportunities.

Contribute to a cause

Giving back to society is a small responsibility we can carry to make the world a better place.  Find a cause to volunteer for in the evenings, or if you really don’t have the time, make a regular donation to a charitable organisation of your choice in 2016.

Pamper yourself once in a while

Be it that long-awaited overseas vacation you have dreamed for years or just a relaxing spa day at one of the most luxurious 5-star hotels in your city, you deserve it – do whatever your heart desires every now and then.

Smile more

The simple act of smiling can make you happier and healthier. Scientifically, smiling activates the release of dopamine, endorphins and serotonin; neurotransmitters that help reduce stress and elicit positive emotions. Socially, when you smile, you may appear more inviting, attractive, relaxed and sincere to others – so practice more in 2016!
